Club Riu Negril 07/21/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
Just got back from a quick trip to check out this resort and the Riu Tropical for my daughter's next spring weding. Its a great property except for the fact that they are still working on the beach trying to extend it out into the water so the water is not as clear as it is further down by the Riu Tropical. I don't know how long this will take but it was a drawback to our trip. I live for the clear blue water of Jamaica. The food was wonderful. Large buffets at all meals and great specialty restaurants. My husband is an early riser so he didn't mind getting in line to make reservations for the specialty restaurants on the evenings we ate in them. Each has 2 seatings one at 7 and one at 9 p.m. Drinks were also good and they have a nice bar list. If you're American, you will be in the minority at this resort as it is Spanish run so there are a lot of non-English speaking guests. It has great deep bathtubs in the rooms. Try for rooms in the 1000 or 2000 buildings as the 3000 and 4000 buildings are far from all the activities and the restaurants but if you want more privacy and don't mind walking you may want to be at the other end of the resort (3000 - 4000) rooms. We were in 2156 and had an ocean view and beach front room. There is great shade from the trees on the beach but this will resrict your view of the water. All in all its a great resort with nice large pools and an ok beach. Good Food. So-so entertainment. Great fruit shakes for breakfast. My drink was MANGO Dacqueri, which was delicious.
