We visited Samasara Hotel and Resort in July of 2003 and hadn't looked at any reviews when we booked the stay. We had been to the cliffs of Negril many times before and had never had a bad stay so we figured, what the heck! Right before we left I decided to look up some reviews and was floored with the negative reviews and rankings. I decided to not worry and give the place a chance. We arrived at Samsara on a rainy carribbean night and were immidiately unhappy with the accomodations. We never stay at the big resorts so we weren't expecting unrealistic accomodations. We stayed in a pillar house which I wasn't quite sure if the floors were going to hold, the plumbing (the toilet in specific) didn't work well and the large sundeck is directly outside of your door (to provide zero privacy). The staff is less than friendly and seemed to resent the fact that we werent on the all inclusive package (we never are, there are too many good, affordable places right outside on the streets of the cliffs). Do not expect any Red Stripe beer, even though Red Stripe adds are all over the bar! Do not expect more than an adaquate room even if you are upgraded to a pillar house! If you do stay here remember it is still Jamaica and you could never have a really bad stay, but you will have a much finer time at Xtabi or Firefly and pay around the same. Oh! they do have a very nice ocean front pool though.
