Jamaica Hotel & Villa Reviews

Sandals Montego Bay All-Inclusive 09/11/2006
Reviewers Rating: Great
My Husband and I honeymooned at the Sandals-Montego Bay Resort August 26th, 2006, and boy did we have a great time!
We flew into Sangster International Airport in Jamaica and were a bit freaked out by all of the locals trying to offer you cab rides to the hotel instead of taking the resort shuttle. Well, instead of waiting 45 minutes for the resort shuttle we rode with some guy who claimed he was a cab driver and off we went to the resort! We were definitely overcharged by the cab driver but who cares- we made it to the resort in no time to start our honeymoon, plus the cab driver was very-Um- helpful and accommodating-know what I mean Vern?
We arrived at the Resort and were sent to the concierge area to be checked in. We were greeted with champagne by a lovely man by the name of Carlton. He answered all of our questions and quickly whisked us and our luggage away to our room.
Dinner that night at the Bayside Terrace was great. There was a huge buffet which had all kinds of salads, fresh fruits, breads, desserts, soups and a wonderful Carribean sweet and sour chicken (not too sweet, and hardly any breading-if any at all) with a yummy coconut infused rice.
After dinner, my new hubby and I decided to go for a walk on the beach- Beware of the paddlers (thats what we call them-instead of peddlers). There are locals who paddle up and down the beach trying to sell beautiful conch shells, beaded necklaces and anklets and an assortment of other stuff. You can haggle with them- they love it-If they tell you $30 for 2 lg conch shells and a beaded necklace- offer them $12-$15. They are harmless and actually very friendly. We made friends with a few and had many laughs as the new vacationers walked the beach for the first time and got caught up in the mix.
Our deluxe oceanfront room had a nice four post mahogany king sized bed. The floors were a nice white tile and we had a nice oceanfront view. The only thing that was a little wierd was the bathroom had small a window that stayed open-so it got very humid in the bathroom-we had to keep the door closed at all times. It seems like our room was the only place to go to seek AC. Everything else-restaurants and main lobby was all open-air but it really wasn't too bad. The Oleander room had AC and not to mention had an awesome pumpkin soup! If you like spicy- then this is the soup for you. I'm not sure what kind of pumpkin or gourd was used to make the soup but it had lots of chicken broth, curry and a pinch of nutmeg, WOW- it cleared my cold right up!
The beaches were never overcrowded. There were plenty of beach chairs and lots of reggae music to listen to. The staff was always right there to take your cups and plates and to bring you more yummy frozen rum drinks. Oh yeah, try the world famous "Duncan Special". Duncan works at the main beach bar and makes a mean frozen banana/rum/cream de cocoa concoction- it's lovely, we had 2 after breakfast each morning. Rock on Duncan!
Now, let me tell you about the entertainment staff- they were totally awesome. The pretty little girls who did the morning and afternoon beach volleyball were the same girls who sang and danced at night- they must truly love their jobs-seems like they never went home. The entertainment staff always walked around and conversed with the guests at the resort- we especially loved Baby Boi and Kedesha. They were both very sweet and kind, they are always full of energy and they seem to really love what they do.
You do get a bit spoiled here, there is always someone ready to wait on you and with a smile. What a great deal, you can eat whatever and whenever you want- the staff keeps the drinks coming- if you don't think the frozen drinks are doing it for you then switch to Red Stripe Beer or try some of the wine. Oh yeah, for late night munchies go over to the Beach Grille for jerked chicken quesadilla's, burgers, nachos, pizza, fresh fruit and a wide variety of desserts. The grille is open from 10:30pm-6am.
We will definitely be back to visit on our 1 year anniversary. We both are from Surfside Beach, South Carolina and are no strangers to ocean living, but the vibe here in Jamaica was so different and so strong? Thank you Sandals for making our honeymoon so special! YA-Mon- One love!
