I just spent Jan 13-20,2005 at Starfish and was quite satisfied. I feel that I got very good value for the money I spent (I won an auction online, so it was very reasonable in my opinion). This is a family-fun oriented resort, so if you want a Hedonism week, go to Hedonism, not to Starfish! They have a small nude beach and I don't think I saw more than 2 people go over there on any given day, since it's just not that type of "crowd" at Starfish.
The staff there is super friendly and I can't recall one person working there in a bad mood (try this where YOU work)! Everyone was very helpful and it made becoming accustomed to my new temporary surroundings very easy. I went there as half of a couple, with an idea that if I liked it we would return in the future with a child. I am confident that I shall, now that I have experienced the resort in person!
Starfish has security guards at the edges of the property, so if you're a little skittish, you needn't be. The lifeguards and security guards are professional and courteous, and they virtually guarantee a great time at the beach! Locals walk across the beach to get to other areas, and some have items to sell, but they are respectful, so there's no trouble with them "hard selling" you or anything (the guards see to that).
The resort has a "no tipping" policy, but sometimes I would slip an employee something for going above and beyond the standard job description for me, and it was always appreciated. You'll enjoy the "towel art" your maid will leave for you! Don't forget to pack a soft bag to fill with local artisans crafts, so you can bring it back for souvenirs- you'll be glad you did!
