Sunset Beach Resort and Spa All-Inclusive 01/05/2005

We recently returned from a trip to this resort from 12/18 through 12/22. We went as part of a 5 Apple Square deal from Chicago.
We have visited Jamaica twice before staying at Beaches Negril as well as Sunset Beach. This of course was our second stay at Sunset.
The good:
Staff- Very friendly and courteous.
Entertainment- Great. Something for everyone. Could use a few more day time activities or events.
Grounds- Clean and well maintained.
Drinks- Plenty strong and tasty!
The bad:
Food- The lack of variety continues. Seems like you eat the same tings day after day. Breakfast is by far the best meal of the day.
Pool- Pool itself is fine. Problem is the water temperature. The thing was absolutely freezing. It was so cold people had a hard time staying at the pool bar because they were too cold.
Drinks- Yes they are good. Only thing is that they serve them in little 8 ounce cups. That means way too many trips to the bar. Bring yourself a set of insulated mugs. Bartenders will gladly fill them for you without hesitation.
Construction- The resort is adding what looks to be a really nice water park complete with slides and a lazy river. The noise was not bad. However a portion of the beach was quartered off and the stage area where nightly entertainment takes place was closed. All entertainment was held in the open-air lobby.
Overview-
Overall Sunset is a nice resort and is a good value. For our price ($1200 total for the two of us) it is a great deal.
It's perfect for cost conscious travelers. If you want to go to a decent resort in Jamaica without need a second mortgage, Sunset is ideal. It can't be compared to the super inclusive resorts like Sandals, Couples or Breezes. However, for the price, I never expected it to be.
