Hacienda Tamarindo in Vieques 09/05/01
Reviewers Rating: Good
More like 2.5 Stars, to say the least. This was my first trip to Vieques. I am a well traveled individual. The Hacienda Tamarindo has a nice view of the ocean, but hardly worth the $150/night off season price. The establishment has seen better days. The rocky beach is approximately ² of a mile from the Hacienda. The staff were not the friendliest people I have ever met. The secretary, Olga, would rather argue her point then solve the guest's problems. The room I was in came with A/C but it might as not been on because the windows are louvered and do not retain the cold air. They have a beautiful pool and I am sure it is nice to swim in. That is when the staff's families are not swimming in it. The can of Raid should have been our first clue, and the fact that we had to use it was even worse. I would return to Vieques because the beaches are very nice, but I would not stay at the Hacienda Tamarindo. The Inn at the Blue Horizon is about 100 yards closer to the ocean and the grounds were very nice. The only drawback is that their rooms do not have A/C. It is a little more expensive but judging from my experience I think it would be worth the money. I did not see Burr nor Linda the entire three days I was there but Burr seemed like a charming fellow from the correspondences I had prior to my arrival. It is attention to detail that brings back customers and they are lacking at the Hacienda Tamarindo. The best thing I can say is that I am glad I met the friendliest individual at the Hacienda Tamarindo, the dog Barkley.
