Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Puerto Rico
Wyndam El Conquistador 11/14/01
Reviewers Rating: Great
This resort is absolutely beautiful. From the warm tropical breezes on their own island to the tree frogs peeping at night. When we arrived in PR we went to baggage claim. We were happy to see that the Hertz rental car desk was right there. We got our luggage hopped on the bus to our car ( a toyota echo). Make sure to grab a map if you rent a car and I would recommend renting a car. We easily followed Rt 3 to Conquistador Ave. When we entered the gates I was in love. You climb this mountain through a golf course to the hotel. The bell men took our bags and Rob went to park the car. I got in line to check in and was finished before he was back from the parking lot. The bell man took us to our room which was amazing. I first entered the huge bathroom and was surprised to see the shampoo and other things were from Bath and Body Works. As I explored the rest of the room I saw the view. Our terris had a breath-taking view of the golf course, ocean and mountains! . This is a first class hotel but you will pay these prices for everything. The drinks are New York City priced about $6 for a fozen drink. I was shocked when I saw a menu where a hotdog was $9. We ate some lunches there and two diners. I would not recommend the Stingray. They have very small portions! We really enjoyed having the freedom of the rental car. We went to Old San Juan, the Rain Forest and ate many times in Luquillo at the Brass Cactus Bar and Grill. There Island is nice but be careful of that sun it is strong! You don't feel as if you are "cooking" because of the breezes. The ocean is nice for snorkling ( $10 to rent equipment for the day) but it is not very deep. The pools are only 3 and 4 feet deep. Overall I really liked it. It was paradise. I wish I was still there! (This review was originally submitted on March 6, 2001)
