Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Puerto Rico
Caribe Hilton 07/03/02
Reviewers Rating: Good
This refurbished hotel with an open air lobby does have some nice amenities- a large pool with a swim up bar, lots of nice shops on the lobby level and well maintained grounds in the garden area. However, we encountered attitudes among the staff that indicated that they were not very interested in putting the interests of their guests first. The hotel clerk questioned my reservation documents upon check in, and after I showed her that she had made a mistake she started talking (in Spanish) to her co-clerk. She thought she wasn't being understood, but my wife understands Spanish quite well and told me that the clerk was mocking my attempt to check in. I don't expect this kind of rudeness at a first class hotel. We had told the hotel we were on our honeymoon when we made the reservation many weeks ago. With this being the slow season, I thought we would get a nice room. We got a room that reeked of cigarettes (after I had specifically requested non-smoking) with a view overlooking the roof of the adjoining building. When I called the front desk to get an extra pillow, it took four calls over an hour and one-half period. This hotel reminded me of a big high rise hotel in a warm weather U. S. city such as Miami. This hotel did have very good fitness and spa facilities and a wonderful Morton's Steakhouse on the premises If you are looking for special Carribean ambiance, you will not find it here. If you want a fair to good place to stay a night or two on your way to a real Carribean resort, this hotel will do.
