If you are going to spend time on the island of Nevis, do yourself a favor and spend it at the Four Seasons Resort. I made the mistake of spending part of my vacation time in December 2002 at the Oualie Beach Hotel and due to a completely unsatisfactory experience at this hotel, I left the Caribbean early. We arrived at the hotel at night via taxi from the airport. We had 3 suitcases altogether (one of which contained diving equipment). The woman at the front desk was basically uninterested in us from the start. She ignored us as we walked in though no one else was there. She served us our complimentary rum punch drinks from a bottle in a small refrigerator behind the counter, and then proceeded to lead us to the cabin we'd rented. WE had to drag our own bags across the grounds of the hotel to our room. She had zero customer service skills and gave us trouble about our room phone which did not work at first (she hadn't turned it on from the front desk). She seemed to accuse us of lying to her about the phone.
There's basically no beach at this hotel save for a small run of sand that is partially overgrown by the grass and weeds on the property. There is no reason to go here if a great beach is what you are looking for...
Every website I've seen on this hotel speaks of hospitality, but I found very little of that at the Oalie Beach Hotel.
The manager of the hotel and some of the other staff are friendly, but it sure didn't make up for the initial night there, or the experience as a whole. I will, however, compliment them on the rooms, which are nice. That's about it...
I have names and specific information that I refuse to name here, but simply e-mail me and I'll tell you all you want to know of my experience on Nevis.
