St. Kitts & Nevis Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
The Angelus 02/07/2005
Reviewers Rating: Fair
We stayed January 22 - February 5, 2005. It is not a 3 star hotel as listed. It is a condominium complex near the beach (Atlantic side) the rooms are large but in disrepair. We witnessed no construction activity on 4th building during our stay. It appears the owners have run out of money. Rooms facing the parking lot side have washer & dryer. We were told our room had internet connection. Upon arrival it had none. Bernadette, the manager made no apologies. The rooms with internet connections were supposedly booked. We were welcome to use the "conference room". It was a hot unfurnished large room reeking with cat urine near the reception desk. Upon checkout we were charged $100 for internet access! The bed and pillows are cheap and not at all conducive to a good night's sleep. We had large roaches and small red ants in our kitchen and cabinets. The room safe did not work. 2 of 3 dresser drawers were broken. The bottom drawer had simply been screwed shut. The toilets ran constantly. We notified the manager and maintenance, but they said they could do nothing about it. The pool is really beautiful. There were only 6 lounge chairs around the entire pool. However, the pool attendant did bring some from the beach. He also got 1 of 2 pool toilets working. (I was shocked to find out of order signs on the pool toilet doors for the entire first week we were there!)There is a swim up bar, but some days no one is there to sell sodas, bottled beer & water. Food is not available at the pool bar. It is a long walk to the beach bar where hamburgers & hot dogs are served without French fries or potato chips! This place can be described in 2 words: poorly managed. I would recommend Frigate Bay Resort, Sugar Bay or Timothy Beach Resort for reasonable prices and services in St. Kitts. Don't bother going to the "Caribe restaurant at the Angelus. The chef lives here only while his girlfriend is in vet school. He is a good cook who worked for the Hilton family in Key West. Once again, we paid full price for incomplete service and amenities. There are lots of fine dining establishments and hotels/ resorts on St Kitts. Avoid this one unless you like to get fleeced!
