The Rainbow Hotel 01/03/01

I stayed for a week in the Rainbow, and can't possibly say enough good things about it. The rooms are clean, and it has wonderful atmosphere. All rooms overlook a stunning courtyard complete with palm trees, bouganvallia, swimming pool and bar hut. Rooms above ground floor either also look out over the town and hills or Rodney bay and the beach. It is in a great location, close enough to walk to restaurants, bars, night clubs, shopping, the beach is just steps away, yet it is far enough from everything to be quiet when you need to sleep. The Rainbow is in one of the safest locations on the island, making it great for kids, or nervous travellers. The food in the restaurant (which is open for lunch, but not always dinner) serves very good traditional creole or offers north american sandwiches, slightly on the pricy side, but exceptional. It has a bar which is open all day as well. My only complaint about it was that I had difficulty getting phone messages when I needed them.
All in all, however, for a family or couple travelling on a shoestring budget, the rainbow is the place to stay. Its simple, yet attractive, and not overdone. You get a good place for your dollar, and I'd recommend it above other small hotels in its bracket.
