We spent 5 nights at Ladera in March. For the money it cost I had very high expectations and I was not disappointed. We stayed in the lowest cost room. The view was unbelievable, the room was huge, 2-level, and very unique. The grounds were just beautiful. Every person on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and went far beyond what you would expect. I just cannot say enough about the rooms and the staff. The breakfasts (included with the room) were quite nice but the dinners were costly and while good, they were not memorable. We had a very similar judgement at 2 other resorts we ate at so that seems to be the norm. I could find things to complain about, such as the plunge pool being cold since it didn't really get sun, but I really didn't care about the pool. A word of advice: the open design at Ladera means wildlife can and does come into you room. This means birds, lizards, and frogs. They do not get in the bed or anything, in fact, they try to avoid humans. We loved it, at one point we were chasing 6 lizards around the room. But if you cannot tolerate creatures of this type you should stay in a more traditional hotel.
