St. Lucia

On our second trip to St. Lucia, we stayed at the Rex. We really enjoyed being near the restaurants in the Rodney Bay area along with the wonderful beach. Reduit Beach is perfect for swimming and watersports. The Rex has a wonderful location. The hotel lobby and restaurant areas look lovely, but you can see the age in the some of the rooms. The rooms are your basic Holiday Inn type rooms, nothing spectacular, but very clean and nicely decorated. We stayed in the basic room and had a nice patio overlooking the pool and a beautiful mango tree.
There were several vendors on the beach, but they were friendly and not too pushy. They ask on the first day and if you say "no" they will leave you alone for the rest of your trip.
The watersports instructors were very helpful and there was plenty to choose from. The beach is beautiful and the water is clear. There is a large rock several feet from one area of the beach with nice snorkeling. The view of the boats anchored in the bay is also nice.
The small mall in the front of the hotel had a snack shop, several clothing stores, some souvenir type places and a small shop with suntan lotion, drinks and some foods. The prices seemed pretty comparable to the JQ's mall prices down the street.
The restaurant prices seemed pretty reasonable and the service was very good.
We stayed at the Hyatt last year, but found that we preferred the Rodney Bay location which saves cab fares to the local restaurants. Although, the Hyatt is a very nice place.
We plan to return to St. Lucia and the Rex as soon as possible!
