Hotel Reviews: St. Lucia
Ti Kaye Village 07/23/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just returned from a week at Ti Kaye. Secluded and romantic covers it. Wonderful gingerbread airconditioned cottages with balconies, some plunge pools with beautiful sea views, fourposters with netting, hammocks, private open-air(!) showers, great (and reasonably priced)restaurant/bar (Rob is chef, William barkeep,) nice pool overlooking one of StL's best snorkeling beaches (Anse Cochon), warm attentive mgmt and staff, still new so plantings are still maturing and not all advertised facilities are in place. 167 step staircase to beach, but worth it. Best for athletic guests. All the scuba/snorkel boats choose to stop at Anse Cochon, so it gets a bit lively 2-4pm. 35 minutes by car to Castries, but on beautiful unspoiled coast between fishing villages of Anse LaRaye and Canaries. Very isolated, but on most scenic and probably best highway on island (a relative term since its still narrow, twisty, and challenging.) Last 1/2 mile is a VERY rough track, so rent a mini-jeep (suzuki Samuri seems the vehicle of choice.) Pretty isolated to be dependent on taxis. If you have wheels and an adventurous spirit you'll love exploring the area--Soufriere/Ladera/Dasheen is one hour south, Castries half hour north. On Fridays the hotel took us to the Fish Feast in Anse LaRaye, which is a great opportunity to hang with the locals. Be able to entertain yourself because is gets quiet at night. Owner Nick Pinnock and Manager Jeannine Davies and whole team go out of their way to make your visit pleasant, and Nick is working hard to finish his dive center/jetty/beach bar at the bottom of the steps, but as of mid-July the resort is still a work in progress (no room phones or TVs yet, but should be installed very soon.) Rick&Leah, 23 July 01
