Hotel & Resort Reviews:
St. Lucia
Ladera 11/27/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
This resort is uniquely wonderful and my favorite resort in the world. One of my favorite parts of staying at the resort was listening to people recount their initial reactions to their rooms. Everyone is blown away. The Internet and the brochure do not do this resort justice. Even the smallest rooms are huge by comparison to rooms at Sandals and other resorts. The open-air design does allow for some critters to enter the room. In 4 days we had many birds and lizards, one black beetle, one green beetle and one huge moth stop by and visit. Occasionally at night a fruit-seeking bat would fly in our room and then quickly fly out. Overall, bugs were not a problem and were seen no more than back at home. The steady breeze from the mountains makes the 95-degree heat not a problem and sleeping easy. The staff is wonderful and among the best on the island. They are more than willing to help accommodate special excursions into the country. Also not being located on a beach was not a problem since the resort provides a free 20-minute shuttle to Anse Chastanet, perhaps the most beautiful beach on the island. Most of the island can be seen from tours leaving the resort and Soufrie. Most of your travel shopping can be accomplished in the capital Castries, which is only a 30-minute water taxi ride from Soufrie. The water taxi ride alone is a great sight seeing experience. The restaurant Dasheene is the best restaurant on the island. We tried many other ones including the many Sandals restaurants. All of the restaurants were good. However, Dasheene has the perfect ambiance and excellent food, which makes it by far the best restaurant on the island. Meal prices are between 16-30 US $. Meals can get expensive if you order many drinks (5 US $ apiece) which is very easy to do. However, Orlando and Nigil are among the finest chefs on the island so even if you don’t stay at Ladera, visiting the restaurant is a must. You will be hard pressed to find a better meal on the island. Overall the resort is an excellent romantic getaway. If you want a peaceful and quiet place to relax go to Ladera. If you want to drink and party go to an all-inclusive resort.
