We visited Sandals Golf resort and spa in December 2001 with another couple. We had previously ben to the Sandals Royal Bahamian, and enjoyed the all-inclusive package. First, this resort is beautiful. The lush vegetation of the island and crashing waves on the beach is very tranquil and quite beautiful. We stayed in the one-bedroom suite with a view of the ocean and the smaller pool. This was the nicest room we have every stayed in. You walked onto a terrace, and into the living room, with a stocked bar, couch, TV, chairs, etc. You then walked up a flight of stairs to the bedroom and bathroom, which were also very nice. The only problem we had with our room, was that during our last two days, we received quite alot of rain. We had some water seep in downstairs in the living room. The staff was quick to respond and clean the mess (even replaced the entire area rug), and offered to move us to another room. Since we were leaving the next morning, we decided to stay put.The food was very good. Our favorite was the French restaurant, La Toc. We ate there twice, and really enjoyed the food. We also liked the Japanese restaurant, and the Italian restuarant for breakfast or lunch.
This resort is much larger than the Sandals in the Bahamas, and that took some getting used to. They provided shuttle service around the resort, but we usually walked.
Overall, the employees are friendly and helpful, but I didn't feel that they went "out of their way" for you. The staff was a bit more friendly in the Bahamas.
The only real negative is the fact that it takes way too long to get there. We left Chicago at 6:15 am and didn't get to the resort until almost 7:00 pm. We had a delay out of Montego Bay on the way home, and didn't arrive in Chicago until about 1 am. It takes nearly a day travelling each way. You should definately stay for at least a week to make it worth your while.
Skip the local shopping in St Lucia- the town is dirty and the vendors are all selling the same things.
Overall, a fabulous trip to a lovely resort. We look forward to trying another Sandals resort very soon.
