Where do I begin! We just returned from a fantastic honeymoon at Sandals Halcyon. What a place-the gardens were stunning, the entire resort was extremely well kept. The food was unbelievable (my husband was having some worries about gaining weight for the two weeks that we were there- he got over it!!). WE found Bayside restaurant to be the best. The Pier was good, it is a nice restaurant and the view is amazing. Overall this was some of the best food we have eaten over a two week period anywhere! Make sure you go to the Beach side Bar and Grill and get to know Estelle- she will know you within a day and never forget your name. The rooms at Halcyon were quite nice and all categories were the same size. We booked the deluxe and did not regret it. Don't bother booking the premium, they are further (by a minute) from the beach and are identical to the deluxe- we couldn't figure that one out. THe only reason to book the others is for the view. Go for the ocean front views (not the partial as you will not see it) if you want to see the ocean- these are very close to the beach.
As Halcyon is not spread out any room category is great. I had read some comments before leaving that the rooms were small- I did not find them to be small at all, I have traveled extensively and have stayed in much smaller rooms than this! We found the room to be perfect, for the small amount of time we actually spent in it (pool, beach...).
We loved Halcyon because it was laid back, no pressure to join any "games", but they are there if you like that. Very quiet atmosphere that was perfect for our honeymoon- we miss it already.
We mainly stayed on resort, but my husband did do some diving (resort course) which I was nervous about as I am a certified diver and cannot see how you can learn this in two hours- but he was great, and so were the instructors- enough to quell my nerves, and he had a great time.
WE also snorkeled- this is included and I highly recommend it- Anse des Pitons has a marine reserve and we had an AMAZING time- Sandals provides a snorkeling guide, which was great because I asked him to name every fish and creature I saw- he knew all of them. We saw tons of fish, crabs, barracudas, jellies, corals, all in all it was a great reef, nestled in between the pitons, so the view above water was great as well.
We also did the doplhin and whale watching- not really worth it in my opinion but the boat ride was nice. We should have gone snorkeling instead as we saw dolphins on that trip!
We went for a two hour horseback ride- fantastic- stunning views and something a little different. Great experience- the Atlantic side was beautiful.
All in all FANTASTIC experience and we would go back in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a laid back, beautiful resort that is not spread out or too large with fabulous gardens then this is the place for you.
