Great
Airline/Resort Check-In: We were booked on the Champagne Express from Newark to St. Lucia. It was a perfect flight. Continental is great. We stepped off the plane to beautiful sunny weather. We checked in at the airport and then boarded a bus to the resort. It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get to the resort. The ride was no that bad. The bus had air conditioning so no one complained. The roads are very different though. Very hilly and many sharp turns. After we got to the resort, they took everyone to the conference room. That's where we recieved our room key and other stuff along with a glass of champagne. The Room: We originally booked the lowest category, deluxe, but were upgraded 4 categories to the Luxury Beachfront room (room 315). In all honesty, the room had it's up & downs. Ups: we were close to pretty much everything, it had a balcony, and a great view of the ocean, pool, etc. Downs: it needed a facelift in the bathroom and it was small. I guess we were spoiled at the Sandals Royal Bahamian with a larger room in the villas.
The Food: Overall, the food was pretty good. We didn't eat at every restaurant, but I'll cover the ones we did eat at.
The Pavilion: We ate breakfast there everyday. We really enjoy the buffet style breakfast. They had a huge variety of anything and everything you can think of. It was great! We also had dinner there 3 times. One night, they had a buffet which was great. The other 2 times was a sit down. I had steak both times. It was good. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled, but I think the servings could have been bigger. For example: one of the dinner choices was a cornish hen. Well...it wasn't exactly a hen...it was more like a tiny cornish leg!
Arizonas: We ate there the very first night of our stay. They have a variety of steak, chicken, and fish all done on the grill. It's pretty good.
Armandos: Excellent food! Very upscale Itialian restaurant. The atmosphere is very nice too.
Marios @ the Halcyon: This was the best dinner we had throughout our stay. The food was just wonderful. I can't rave about it enough. If I was to compare the 2 Itialian restaurants (Mario's and Armando's), I'd say go w/ Mario's.
The Beach Grill: We had about half of our lunches there. Basically, there's hot dogs, burgers or chicken sandwiches. It was good and quick if you're in a rush.
Lunch @ the Pavilion: We ate the rest of our lunches there. It was a buffet style with heavier foods, but they were always great.
The pools: They were freezing! My husband got in once! I heard the Piton pool was warm, but we never went there. The whirlpools were perfect! Nice and hot!
Entertainment: The playmakers did a great job! They had beer drinking contests, talent shows, honeymoon games, etc. The resort had great bands too. At the Bon Voyage party (which is held on Saturday nights), they have the best entertainment with a band, dancers, belly dancing, etc.
The Bluffs: We only went up there once. It's was too quiet up there for us. Not that we're partying animals. We just like to see what type of action is going on.
The Beach: The water was cold and the waves were way to ruff (in my opinion.) And of course, there were locals on the beach trying to sell you weed. If you're a beach person, the I'd say to go over to the Halcyon. Water was calmer on that side of the island.
Snorkeling: We snorkeled twice. It was ok. Not too many fish and the water was too cloudy to see much. If you want good underwater pictures, hold your breath and free dive to the bottom.
SCUBA diving: We went diving three times. It was ok. Again, the water was not the clearest. If you've never dived before, then you should definately try it. I'm not certified yet, so I went through the resort course again. My instructor was St. Rose (nickname Buddy) and he is a riot! Wyndall is also an instructor and he is great too! They both go out of their way to make you feel at home!
The Halcyon: We went over to this resort about 2 hours before dinner so we could see it in the daylight and I could snap pictures. The resort is much smaller then the other one, but that's not a bad thing. The grounds at the Halcyon are kept nicer than the golf resort. The pool is smaller and more quiet though. Again, we like to be where the action is and have the option to join in on the action or just to watch.
Weather: The weather was ok. It was always partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. I think we had showers that lasted 5-10 mintutes almost everyday. On Monday around 10:30pm though, it started downpouring! And I am serious when I say that it did not stop till very late Tuesday night.
Overall, the resort was nice and we had a great time. It just needs a bit of a face lift and a paint job.
