Hotel & Resort Reviews:
St. Lucia
Rendezvous 04/25/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We have just returned from Rendezvous and can't say enough about it.We were very happy with our room, an oceanfront room and thought it was the very best room category out of the 5 they offer. We had a ground floor, and it had cross ventilation with wooden slats to let in the balmy breezes and sound of the ocean. It was RIGHT on the beach! There were vines with flowers hanging over our patio which the hummingbirds frequented daily. Our second choice would have been the seasides suites which overlook the pool. For us this was the perfect resort. It is not a large hotel like Sandals, and I would not call it luxurious. It is an older property, and has wear. It is very clean, and has a great deal of Caribbean charm, which was what we wanted. The food was without exception excellent. Plenty of variety and very tasty. We did not try the Trysting as we were so happy with the Terrace Restaurant which was right on the beach and had a great deal of atmosphere, but others who ate at the Trysting said it was "lovely". The beach was beautiful-very spacious with lots of shade trees, bar service and not far from the pool. The entertainment was a lot of fun with limbo, fire dancers, live bands, staff shows, and carribean dancers. There were different themes every nite and our favorite was Thurs. beach barbque, with a buffet on the beach, steel drum band and a show following. Wednesday nite was a managers cocktail party by the pool with appetizers and drinks. The grounds are one big beautiful garden, and are lit up beautifully at nite. The staff is incredibly nice and I truly enjoyed getting to know them. Especially Toni, Milly, Candace, Maria, and Diane. It was my birthday during our stay and they made it special. We were warmly greeted with a fruity drink and made to feel welcome by Ian. The activities staff are a lot of fun. The bar staff made great drinks and always had a smile. There was plenty to do if you wished. Archery, ring toss, dance lessons, steel drum lessons, bike rides into town, ping pong and board games for rainy days. The sunsets are incredible, and a must see every nite. They have a dive program that every one seemed happy with. Massages by Beverly were to die for. The highlight for me was the watersports! Waterskiing, kayaking, sailing, paddleboats, windsurfers and tubing. The watersports staff are unbelievably fun and I had a blast thanks to Melissa, Junior, Boyblue and Cheldon, who drives a mean tubing boat! Thank you all for helping me with my waterskiing! There were not many Americans, which puzzled me. The nearby airport did not bother us at all. Only 4 jets took off from there the entire week of our stay, and they are quite loud, but it only lasts a few seconds. Probably the worst part of our trip was the trek from the airport at the south end of the island. It was an hour and 45 minutes long, and although the scenery was beautiful, it was hard to enjoy it from a cramped, crowded hot van that had trouble making it up the mountain roads. Fairly treacherous. We took the helicopter back, which was very scenic, and well worth the $100 pp. We also took the Tout Bogay catarmaran tour to the south end of the island, to Soufrere, volcano, waterfall and lunch at a cocoa plantation which was great. Very beautiful and lush at the south end of the island. Don't hesitate to stay at Rendezvous-I don't know how you'd do better!
