Excellent
We spent a week and a half at the Rex after having spent a week at the Sandridge Beach Hotel in Barbados, and there really was no comparison between the two. The Rex was truly lovely - excellent value for money and a truly lovely setting.I read on one of the other reviews on this site (about the Rex) that the hotel staff were all friendly. Those particular staff must have been away when we went as there were quite a few surly souls that we encountered during our stay (particularly in the restaurant), but on the whole the hotel was superb.
We opted for the breakfast only option as there are quite a few restaurants in the very-near vicinity. Best of these (for setting and, to a lesser degree, food) is Spinnakers - a beach bar five minutes walk along the beach from the Rex. BE THERE for happy hour - they literally bring you two drinks at a time and you only pay for one. Glasses tend to pile up quite quickly on your table...
For those into scuba diving, be warned, all of the dive sites are on the south-eastern corner of the island (most of them around the base of the Pitons), and it is quite a trip there from the Rex. The Rex does have a scuba diving co-ordinator service, but they simply book the dives and arrange your trip to the scuba sites. All diving from the Rex takes place through the Anse Chastenet resort. You're looking at around an hour to get there from the Rex (first you get driven to Castries and then you hop on a speedboat for a +/- 40 minute boat ride.
We would certainly stay at the Rex again, though the Anse Chastenet resort also looked great and was a lot closer to those fabulous scuba sites.....
