Excellent
We stayed at Sandals St. Lucia from September 23, 2002 through September 30, 2002 for our honeymoon. To start with, we could have easily stayed there for another week and been extremely happy (actually we wish that we would have!!) We had originally booked the one bedroom honeymoon oceanview suite, but got upgraded to the suites on sunset bluff (not the one with the plunge pool). We were pleasantly surprised when the shuttle driver drove us to our suite, because they did not even inform us that we had been upgraded. We had thought that if we were upgraded, they would have made a big production of it, but no one even said a word. The room was amazing. It was extremely clean and in great condition. The bar was stocked and re-stocked everyday, without exception. Room service was good, although sometimes it took quite awhile to get it, which we just planned ahead of time. The housekeeping department was incredibly nice and turndown service was great. We did have a small problem with the airconditioner, in that it was leaking some water from the ceiling. Maintanence came immediately and could not apologize enough for the problem. They quickly fixed it and we had further problems.
Some people have complained of the size of the resort, but we found it to be very nice. We hardly ever used the shuttle, mostly walked to and from the bluffs everyday. We found it a nice walk and even nicer when we had eaten too much for dinner! If if was not for that hill, we probably would have come back weighing twenty pounds heavier!
Speaking of the food- we found it to be pretty good- depending which restaurant you went to. We found Armando's and the Pavillion to be a little bland, but alright. Our favorite restaurants were La Toc and The Pitons. The service at both was remarkable. The wine at both was very good also (the 2001 Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon was great!) We did eat at The Pier at Halcyon, but were not extremely impressed. It was good, but we preferred the previous two mentioned restaurants.
The resort itself was very nice. We found the grounds to be beautiful and well kept. We always saw someone weeding or planting. The pools were great also, although we spent most of our time on the beach. It is true that if you want a good spot at the main pool, you should put your stuff out early and "reserve" a spot. We would just set out our towels, then go to breakfast. It was not a big deal. But like I said, we spent most of our time on the beach, which was great. Sometimes the waves got kind of big, but it was never a problem.
Obviously, we enjoyed our trip immensely. We loved the resort and plan on going back someday, although we may try out the Grande. Sandals St. Lucia Golf and Spa Resort is definitely geared more for a younger, fun crowd, but at the same time it was extremely peaceful and relaxing. I would, without question, recommend this resort to anyone who wants to have a fabulous vacation!!
