St. Lucia Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Rex St. Lucian 04/21/2003
Reviewers Rating: Great
We just got back from an all inclusive week in St. Lucia. The Rex has a lovely setting on a beautiful bay. The beach is sandy and wat easy to get into, but it is quite narrow. Because it is on one of the best beaches in the island it is older. They get the best sites usually. Lots of yachts anchored off the beach...pretty view of Pigeon Island and Sndals Grand Hotel across the bay.

It had a nice Carribean charm unlike the new resorts which cram hundreds of rooms onto a small beach area. Rooms were simply furnished and had TV & hairdryers. Unfortunately the air conditioning had difficulty keeping our room cool. It was a hot week and the room was only slightly cooler than the outdoors.

Food was good, but not gourmet. However you could use a credit of $40 EC at the Oriental restaurant at Rex and also at Epicure and Chic restaurants at the Royal St. Lucian next door. We did that and the food at those places was delicious. All inclusive is a good deal and you could go to the other restarurants located across the street.

We did take the Tout Bagay catamaran tour down the coast to Soufriere and the Pitons. It's a spectacular was to see the Pitons and you don't have to drive up the steep, curving roads. Also took a cab in Castries, the capital, for a look at the cathedral, vegetable market and craft market. Very colorful. You CAN bring back spices such as nutmeg that you buy at the market.

Had a lovely trip, good weather, staffers were eager to help at the hotel. St. Lucia's #1 source of income is tourism and they're working hard to make you want to return. We shall return some day.
