St. Lucia Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Sandals Regency St. Lucia Golf Resort & Spa All Inclusive 07/01/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We booked at Sandals Regency because we don't know the Caribbean and we wanted to be sure of a luxury holiday. This worked really well - we had a suite and were very pleased both with our accommodation and our choice of resort. We don't know enough to compare value for money with other options but we were happy with the deal we had.
If anything the resort looks better on the spot than in the pictures which don't do the setting justice. The resorts were generally well maintained and the pools were all spotless. The staff at all three resorts were very friendly and helpful. We ate around the three resorts and enjoyed every meal we had. Our favourite was probably the Pier at the Halcyon, but we also liked Le Toc, the Pitons, Armandos and Arizona at the Regency and Barefoot by the Beach at the Grande.
We had no problem getting premium branded drinks (which tasted genuine to us) but we mostly chose to drink the cocktails from the bar menus. These were at least 50% ice and (as the menus make clear) not particulary authentic but they were fun to drink and the ice was welcome in the sun and heat. We were also happy with the wines we were offered as inclusive - typically they were well chosen New World wines which complemented the good food we had.
We went on three of the recommended excursions and felt that they were value for money although not cheap. All were fun, well organised and safe. We also really enjoyed an included snorkelling trip, where the staff really took care of our safety - we wished we'd started doing that sooner in the holiday.
We are British and middle aged and some of the young Americans could appear noisy and intimidating from a distance, but they were mostly very friendly and we enjoyed lots of lively and interesting chats with other guests.
Our only reservation was that the area round the main pool and the Pavilion restaurant could get very busy and had noisy music with rather spoilt the beautiful Caribbean atmosphere for us. This was a minor problem because other parts of the resort were much quieter, but we did meet a couple who had been moved from a room in this area because they found it noisy.
