St. Lucia Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Sandals Regency St. Lucia Golf Resort & Spa All Inclusive 12/27/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
Overall, the resort was very good. We were looking for a relaxing time. Since we were there in a less crowded time of year (12/13/04 - 12/19/04), we didn't experience having to wait for restaurants or seats by the pool.
The staff was very gracious. There were maybe one or two instances when somebody wasn't accomodating or super polite (one instance was when we called to have our bags picked up, and they didn't send anyone for an hour even though we asked several times about them because they were unlocked and outside of our room -- we finally just brought them down ourselves), but there were many instances where a closed bar served us a drink or did something especially nice.
The drinks were fine -- the wine was good, and at La Toc, you can pay extra if expensive wine is important to you. The food for dinner was very good to excellent, and the breakfast and lunch buffets were good to very good.
We paid for the cheapest room with a view of the ocean. We were in room 305 in the main building. We really liked our room since we knew we weren't springing for anything extra -- it had a great balcony with a nice ocean view, and it was close to the action but not right next to La Toc, so it felt private.
We had a couples' massage, which I found a bit painful, but my husband really liked his. In fact, I had to ask him to massage my neck for several days afterward to relieve the pain.
We took a boat trip to Martinique, which was also fun. The ride over was VERY bumpy, and people got sick on the boat. It was nice to get away from the resort for a bit. The crew was friendly and the food and drinks on the boat were good. We also saw a whale on our trip back (which was thankfully much calmer)!
I'd say this is a great time of year to go. I definitely wouldn't have wanted a "Spring Break" atmosphere, but on the other hand, we tried to participate in a couple of scheduled events which didn't materialize due to lack of interest (and which the staff seemed unaware of sometimes). However, while we thought "Jeopardy" might have been fun, we didn't go there to participate in competitions all the time, so we were glad to have such easy access to great spots on the beach and by the pool.
Also, because of the low capacity, they closed some bars for the duration, and the restaurants closed on a rotating basis. This wasn't terrible, but we were slightly disappointed not to be able to eat at La Toc again on our last night (although, despite its ratings, I didn't find the food or service there to be any nicer than the other restaurants, which is a compliment to them).
Our favorite restaurant was probably Pitons, followed by The Pier at the Halycon. They both served delicious Caribbean food.
