St. Lucia Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Stonefield 11/22/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
I started off investigating location 7-8 months prior to the trip. We wanted an all-inclusive and privacy, not the cookie-cutter places. Stonefield was perfect. We went on one of the packages for 7 nights and upgraded to a villa with a plunge pool, very wise choice. I would suggest that if you want a plunge pool villa to try Fragipanni and if no plunge pool, try Jacaranda.
We went Nov 6-13 and bugs were not an issue, although I had bought extra netting just in case. The louvered doors and windows now have screening on them and thus critters in the unit were also not an issue. The night critters take a bit of getting used to but I actually brought a tape machine and recorded them, very loud and interesting but not a problem.
The all-inclusive applies to dinner and breakfast, no lunch or alcohol or drinks served with dinner or breakfast, but still not a problem. Service is slooooowwww, not unusal for the islands. Just plan on an hour or so for breakfast and lunch and an hour and a half for dinner and you should be okay.
Certain excursions were provided with the package and were interesting as well as daily shuttle service to beach (at Hilton) or the nearby town.
Would suggest the helicopter from the airport to the Hilton since the roads are fierce and the ride is spectacular.
Snorkeling was not the best but interesting none the less. Spent a day on the beach at Anse Chastane, a black volcanic sand beach. They have a deal at this resort for $45/pp you can get lunch as well as a lounge chair and palm frond umbrella vs sitting in the sand at the far end of the beach as we did.
Took a water taxi ride up to Oasis Marigot (20-25 min $131US) and took a look around. Beautiful bay but, unless you are a mountain climber, I would not tend to stay there. Not much of a beach either.
All in all Stonefield was location, accomodations, staff, set up. We will be going back to St Lucia and will only consider Stonefield.
Thank you for a great time!!
