St. Lucia Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort

Reviewers Rating: Good
I went to Windjammer this past May, 2004 for six days. I travelled with my girlfriend and we attended the jazz festival. I thought the view from the resort was absolutely breathtaking. St Lucia is an absolutely beautiful island. That's about the only postive thing I have to say. The food was well below average. And that was the consensus among a lot of the guests that were also staying there. We arrived at the resort and were told that we could elect to purchase the all inclusive plan, and after having dinner and then breakfast the next day, we said, no. We ended up eating dinner off the resort every night which was pricey since we then had to pay for a taxi to take us out to eat. The rooms were small. We stayed in a standard hotel room with two twin beds. It was just very basic. The bathroom had an open window so birds and any kind of bugs were just coming on through. So of course there's no air conditioning in the bathroom. This may or may not be a problem for some people. We ended up stuffing a huge pillow in the window that was lying in the closet to keep the bugs and birds out. We saw some of the villas because we had friends also staying there. Our one set of friends had a really nice villa, two floor, 2 bedroom, private pool. Another set of friends, their living room was outside. Again, mosquitos are very popular in St. Lucia, so if that's not an issue, then you'll be fine. But you can't sit outside without hosing down with "OFF" or "Skin so Soft" because the mosquitos are in rare form. To me, the villa is okay for the one person or couple that has the huge room with the king size bed, but the room with the two twin beds, is again, small. The entertainment at the resort was nonexistent or just not good at all. They gave the impression that because the jazzfest was going on, that the resort would also offer entertainment. Didn't happen. Other than at the Sunday jazz brunch (which was about the only decent meal that was offered the entire week). And it still was not "over the top." Just what I expected all week. The beach area is really not that big, but it was okay since there was a small crowd at the resort. Most folks were at the jazzfest during the day. The customer service was just okay. Because the resort is built high into a mountain, the paths leading down to the main area with the restaurants, beaches and pools, are very curvy and steep. A shuttle bus is offered to carry you from your room down to the main area. The shuttle service was very prompt. Well, on our last day, the phone went out during a storm. The management was slow in responding to our concerns about not having the phone which was important if you required a shuttle. The water sports were just okay, very basic. I thought this resort was just okay. I wouldn't rate Windjammer as a 4 or 5 star hotel which is what I often see when researching resorts in St Lucia. So that concerns me in relying on various traveller websites providing info about resorts. I did hear people rate the Sandals property a lot higher and also Le Sport. So good luck!
