Hotel Reviews:
St. Martin/St. Maarten
Sea Palace 8/14/00
Reviewers Rating: Fair The Dutch side in gerneral is nothing but a Ghetto. For any hotel owner to think that they could have a resort in the middle of a ghetto - wrong. The hurricanes have obviously done some damage, and the gov't has d0one nothing to help repair. The Sea Palace offered no security what so ever. The car rental company changed our car on us because they said that the other would get Stolen! Then we had our car towed, while residents cars remained on the street. There were drug dealers and prostitutes outside the building, and vagrants walking in the palace to get there mail. There was no security guard to speak of. We didn't sleep a wink for fear that our car was going to be wrecked or stolen. The merchandise in the store is Bootleg, and you are sure to get ripped off. The only saving grace for the Dutch side is that the alcohol is cheap. But it has to be so you can get drunk to forget about the ghetto! I strongly recommend that anyone considering St Maartin, go to the dutch side. The Sea Palace also charged for everything!! Electricity $5 a day, chairs $2, maid $5 a day security box $15, and it went straight into the guys pocket! We had an air conditioner dripping on our balcony, and the sliding door wouldn't lock. I felt safe! not! The sea palace is not a vacation resort by any means, unless you already live in the ghetto!
