Club Orient 11/09/01
Reviewers Rating: Great
Searched for a unique and interesting place to celebrate my 50th and found Club Orient. I wanted the experience of walking on the beach in the same suit I was born in. After convincing the wife, set out on a day long journey and ended up at our room late Saturday night. We found the accomodations to be spacious (beach chalet) and without equal when it comes to being near the beach. While the air conditioning struggled to cool the whole chalet, we found that closing the bedroom off and keeping the A/C on that we could sleep very comfortably in the queen sized bed. The closet space and dresser were more than adequate for the two huge suitcases and carry-ons we brought with us (too much). You just do not need that many clothes at Club Orient. I checked in with the office the next day and asked them to clean a ceiling fan. Within an hour or so, a service technician showed up, cleaned the fan and replaced all of the blades! Housekeeping was terrific. Even cleaned the front and rear patios each day including mopping. The chalet was fully equiped with enough linens, towels etc and the full kitchen was perfect. We could have stored and cooked anything we wanted but opted for the incredible restaurant opportunities on the island instead. The store at Club Orient had fresh breads each day and enough other supplies to satisfy our needs including Dom Perignon (although we found this slightly cheaper in Marigot and Phillipsburg). Cheap enough to buy it and have a picnic on our patio while gazing out over Orient Beach. Club Orient provided beach chairs and fresh beach towels each day (just exchange them at the office each morning). The restaurant, Papagayos, served good food at reasonable prices and had the most relaxed atmosphere I've ever experienced. A great wine and cheese party on Wednesday evening made for a nice way to meet some of the other guests. Club Orient has a fitness center but it is pretty modest; don't expect a full scale center. Massage was available for very reasonable rates and the masseuse I had was very professional. The gift shop is including in the store and we made a few purchases there just because the prices were good. My wife even bought some inexpensive jewelry there.
The security folks were attentive and seemed to always be present even on the beach. They discourage photographers and made sure no one annoys the guests. They were even there when I walked the beach between 6:00 am and 7:00 am.
Being able to walk out the back patio about 50 feet and be on the beach was terrific and we are already planning another trip. There is something about the expression of freedom that the naturist experience provides that everyone should enjoy at least once in life. Go and enjoy!
