Hotel L'Esplanade 05/29/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We had an absolutely perfect stay at L'Esplanade over Memorial Day weekend. Others have already commented on the hotel's terrific location on the edge of Grand Case and tremendous views, all of which are completely correct. What really should be emphasized is the incredible attention to detail here. Every inch of the place is spotless. You will find fresh flower clippings placed around your room when you arrive, and some french bread and bottled water in your kitchen. We chose a Deluxe Loft room, which at $220 per night was a real bargain. A huge amount of space, with the bedroom and master bath upstairs and the kitchen, living room, private balcony and half bath downstairs. The Continental breakfast service is prompt, delicious and a terrific bargain at $10 pp compared with typical room service you might find at a larger "resort hotel". To top it all off, the staff is friendly and helpful in every respect, from the manager to the cleaning staff, security guard and gardener. I wish I could find some negatives to make this seem like a more balanced review, but sad to say I cannot. Even the fact that the hotel isn't on the beach was fine with us. There are so many great beaches in St. Martin it is unlikely you'd spend most of your time on the Grand Case beach anyway. My only caution is that due to location and dearth of resort-type activities on-site, this might not be the best place to stay with children. We would return to L'Esplanade in a heartbeat. John K. PS. If you want a secluded beach with great snorkeling, try parking at Friar's Bay and hiking over the hill to Happy Bay. Then snorkel around the rocks between the two. Lots of interesting fish and some coral.
