Maho Beach 09/05/02

Went to Maho Beach in Apr 2001. Real nice place, nice rooms (just like brochure). Went all inclusive and the food was great, (we ate at the outdoor ala carte overlooking beach - pool area, for most meals, no limits at this restaurant, had gigantic jumbo shrimp). Buffet was typical and the other restaurants were closed for reno. (So things may have changed).Maho is right beside the airport (literally). Small planes real nice to watch and even the large jets were fun when landing; fly real low. When taking off it's loud (sometimes a slight hint of jet fuel), but both only last a minute or so. Didn't think we were going to like it for the noise, but we had a great time, (just not as quiet as most places). Small beach, cove like; stretches along right behind the airport runway; water a bit deep (& occasionally rough) on the Dutch side, (however not rough like the beach next door); we were in it everyday, lots of fun. Nice pool, swim up bar (you don't get a total view of the beach from the main pool.) There is another pool (quite) total beach view. NO form of entertainment at the hotel (not when we were there) however there is a fun little street right outside it's door; Cheri's - outdoor bar with live music, Soprano's - fun lively piano bar, Casino & a few shops & restaurants. It's about 15 minutes or so drive to both towns. We rented a car and drove the entire island several times. (Seems most people do.) Real nice place.
