Hotel & Resort Reviews: St. Martin/St. Maarten
Great Bay Beach and Resort 01/06/03
Reviewers Rating: Great
We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay at the Great Bay Resort. Although the snorkeling wasn't what I had hoped for, I soon understood why. We discovered the island had suffered damage from the hurricanes in the last 10 years.

Our room service was excellent. The food and drinks were much better than the reviews I had read. I love seafood and we sure had a lovely variation. "Evelyn" was a big help for any of the events. The front desk was most helpful and there was lots of literature available. The bus tour was great and gave us an a real nice understanding of the island. I wouldn't have missed it. The bus tour guide from portugal and bus driver couldn't have been better on those narrow roads in town. We tried the personal water craft machines at the watersports centre. Never having driven one of the machines, it was quite an adventure. I soon learned to stand up to take the shock of the waves. We got to go around the island and see it from the water. Quite the different view and it was really nice. We rented a Harley Davidson motorcycle for two days which was a highlight for my husband. We travelled everywhere, stopped at a beach for a swim and on to the highest point at pic paradise. The road was a bit washed out at the top but we made it and the view was spectacular. The trip on the catamaran Tahuna II to Prickly Pear for snorkeling was well worth it.To top it off we went to Saba Island one day for two dives. We had the best divemasters from the sea deep dive shop. We had been away from diving for 12 years and Andrea and Dave couldn't have been better. That was a highlight for me. The underwater nature is something you just can't explain in words. I would suggest that you get your diver's license and enjoy every minute of it. We enjoyed the beaches, the hills, the weather (constant and very little humidity) and the nature on St. Maarten. We were in walking distance for shopping. Great Bay served us very well for all of our wishes. Friendly is an understatement. Thanks very much for making our holiday such a wonderful experience. Helen, Burlington, Ontario
