St. Martin/St. Maarten Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Sea Palace, Phillipsburg 04/20/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We stayed at the St. Martin Sea Palace from April 6th - April 12 for our honeymoon. It was wonderful!! We were a little skeptical at first, being it was our first time on St. Martin, but it was great!!! The Sea Palace is a timeshare which is located right on Front Street. Renting a car is optional since the property is on the beach and close to all shopping, great restaurants, and casinos. You can take the bus or a cab to most places which we thought was fun and rent a car for just a day or two. Use Maynard's rentals. Ask for Franklin 542-2598 or 542-2429. The Sea Palace can arrange it also. A car is not mandatory!! The beach here is not crowded at all and the Sea Palace provides plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Coolers were $5.00, I think. We brought a soft sided cooler and loaded it with Carib, the local beer, which was awesome!!! There are also some beach bars on this side as well. Not at the Sea Palace but just a few feet down. We did go to some other beaches on the French side, but enjoyed the Great Bay most of all because there were less people. The SAND is JUST as nice as the other beaches and the view is just as beautiful as any other on the island. The cruise ships were a beautiful view on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. Every morning we would wake up to see different ships in the port. Streets were definately more crowded on these days but no big deal. Alot of great restaurants in Phillipsburg, including The Pink Pearl which is inside the Sea Palace. The best Chinese food we ever had!!!! Great menu!! The people so friendly, family owned by a wonderful guy named Howard and his parents and brothers. An absolutely sweet waitress named Crystal who treated us like royalty. The best RUM PUNCHES!!! As far as the staff at the Sea Palace.....the minute you walk in the door, you are greeted with a friendly hello and smiles!!!! I can't say enough about the manager, Leisa, the activities director, Erika, and every single employee I had the pleasure of meeting. They all made us feel like family. They are very personable and take a genuine interest in your stay at their property. They can arrange anything at all for you from soup to nuts!!!! The unit we stayed was in was clean, ocean view, jacuzzi on deck, and a/c. Great places for breakfast that we loved were Passangrahan, also on Front street. The best coffee in town!!! and Kangaroo Court on Hendrick Street, between Front and Back streets. They have a resident cat who greets all. Very cute. Good food!! Had lunch a couple times at Harbour View, also on Front Street. Mahi-Mahi was delicious and the cheeseburgers and fries were great!!! Better than home. Great view!!! Outside dining on the beach deck. Had dinner at Antoine's, also on Front Street. Both of us had the Filet Mignon. Out of this world!!!! Great service and a great view also. Our favorite restaurant on the entire island was Rancho Restaurant on Simpson Bay. The best filet mignon we ever had. We had the flan for dessert, (we split it) which was the best, as well! Loved the atmosphere! The entire dinner, with appetizers, a couple drinks, and dessert was about $75. A must go!!! Also ate at Lee's and had the grilled Lobster. It was good but not filling enough. Everyone around us was eating ribs and raving about them so I guess the food to order at Lee's is RIBS. Also just a quick note about a place we stopped on the French side while driving through....Paradise View at Orient Bay. Great for a picture or two, but we ordered 2 crab salad sandwiches and they were to die for!! We should have bought a couple more to go for a snack back at the room. There were a few small grocery stores within walking distance of the Sea Palace so we were able to get coffee, juice, beer, etc. for the room. There are plenty of things to do as far as activities.(we were on our honeymoon so we chose not to) Also some pretty good nightlife. All in all, a beautiful, romantic place to relax. We loved it so much....we are already planning to go back!!!!
