St. Martin/St. Maarten Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
le Meridien 01/26/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
Spent a week at Le Meridien with my family (1/17/04-1/24/04), I was a little more than hesitant about the stay given the mixed reviews on this web site but the resort was great, it exceeded our expectations. We were on the all inclusive plan which is what I recommend if you plan on spending a fair bit of time at the resort since drinks and food are Very expensive otherwise. This was our second trip to St. Martin so we just stayed mostly on the resort. The resort is isolated from the rest of the island so if you plan on doing a lot of exploring rent a car through your tour operator before arriving.

Room- a little more basic but everything was very clean, a/c worked well, mini fridge in the room, and turndown+towel pick up service every night.
Grounds- beautiful, lush, very well maintained
Beach- very nice, not the best but very good, raked and cleaned daily, water was warm with just a few waves, sand was fine brown/white
Food- very good, great presentation, excellent quality and quantity, all a la carte with a buffet available for dinner if so desired, breakfast was a nice buffet.
Pool, public areas and public bathrooms- all very clean and well maintained
Drinks- all name brand liquors, beer was canned Heineken, Caribe or Coors light, mixed drinks like pina colada’s were the best anywhere
Service- slow, but fine once you relaxed a bit from our North American pace

Most of the clientele were French, followed by Americans, Italians and Canadians, with lots of baby strollers around.
This resort is a good 4 star resort by North American standards, probably 5 star by European standards, and is one of the best hotels on the island. This resort has a much different feel than the large all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, D.R. etc. that we have been to. If you go in expecting the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons you will be disappointed but if you expect a good 4 star hotel, a more modest room with great food and drinks, good beach all on a beautiful island, you won’t be disappointed.
