Le Meridien L'Habitation Le Domaine 02/17/2004
Reviewers Rating: Fair
Just spent 2 nights at the Meridien, 7 in Anguilla, and then back for 2 nights at the Meridien. Never again. On the return trip, they lost our reservation. We left 5 pieces of luggage in the lobby and went to Phillipsburg - the hotel people said they would straighten it out and take care of luggage, room, etc. while we were gone. We came back 5 hours later to find our luggage STILL sitting in the middle of the lobby with no one watching it. The beach and grounds were continually littered with cups, cigarettes, and debris. We basically found the beach to be unusable due to the crowd, but even early in the morning, when it was empty, it was dirty. Even the pool area. One guest complained to the fellow cleaning the pool that some of the lounges had bottles and cups on them for 2 days. His response: not his job. Our room had backing missing from sections of the mirror in the bedroom. Marks all over the tile floors, soft spots on the bathroom ceiling. No bathroom ventilation. When we went to check out, they couldn't find our vouchers they took from the travel agent and tried to charge us an additional $700 for the rooms. They also had it listed that we would be staying for another week! We asked the clerk how we go about scheduling our airport pick up. Her response was "That's between you and your travel agent". When I explained that the hotel had all of our vouchers with this information that they apparently lost, she let out a huge sigh, dialed a phone number and handed me the phone. Didn't tell me who she was calling or what I needed to do. Real bad attitude for mistakes of their doing. We brought all of this to the attention of "Jean", the hotel manager. His solution was to offer to send us a bottle of wine. The buffet breakfast was literally a zoo. You had to wait for open tables and jump in, sometimes sandwiched between 2 tables of chain smokers. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not a big fan of St. Martin, preferring quieter islands of St. John or Anguilla. But if I ever go back there, I will NEVER stay in this hotel. I would feel differently if the manager showed some concern, but apparently it was business as usual. If St. Martin is the kind of experience you want, spend the money and go to a nicer place. You will be disappointed here.
