St. Martin/St. Maarten Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Le Meridien L'Habitation Le Domaine 01/18/2005
Reviewers Rating: Fair
St. Martin is a beautiful island, with a mixture of different cultures, which creates an ambience that will remain with you forever. The beaches are fantastic, the exclusive boutiques are wonderful, and the weather is just incredible. Le Meridien gives St. Martin a bad name. Having been to island several times and staying at different resorts, I found that Le Meridien did not uphold its reputation, nor the criteria that are listed on its website. The service was horrid; the grounds were filthy; the rooms were not cleaned throughout the duration of the 7 day stay; in fact, the mattress in my room suffered terrible injury from the guests prior to us, as it was soaked with "some" substance, that had leaked onto the sheets. There was a significant lack of hygeine. Glasses and cups were washed by hand which is conducive to germ infestatation; the bouffet area which featured an array of left over food from the night before, was covered in saran wrapping, underneath which garden and black flies were having a feast. Beverages were rarely delivered after order, and the beach sand managed to travel onto the tables, creating a thick film on the surface of the place mats, and table. I wouldn't rate the Le Meridien a 5 star resort, as it is advertized by many of the vacation companies in North America, specifically Canada. In fact, the resort iself offered absolutely no amenities what so ever, and the desk staff were less than helpful in checking in and out of the resort. The beach was indeed a white sandy beach - when it wasn't covered with seaweed, and the water was filthy. The pool was also filthy and leaves, menus, chair mats - most likely due the wind gusts of course! Please remember that if you do go this resort, you will not have anywhere to go unless you rent a vehicle, and if you do, you must drive safely up those steep mountain hills, with limited driving space for more than one vehicle at a time. There was no entertainment, and coffee was never ready in the morning. I think we were better off renting a hut on the beach and living off coconuts - as that is what the Le Meridien can compare to for $2k for 7 days!
