St. Martin/St. Maarten Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Maho Beach Resort & Casino 11/11/2004
Reviewers Rating: Good
I was expecting great things from this resort. While most of the comforts were more than satisfactory (food, room, cleanliness, etc..) the staff need a serious overhall. If you're staying all-inclusive don't forget your wallet, these servers are veterans. Our very first drink (and so recognized by the bartender) was poured on our first request, with premium dark rum and a smile. Once no tip was offered we could barely get noticed. The service at the pool bar degraded so badly that upon requesting a drink 4 times and being put off for more important things (like slicing the 25th tray of lemons) I began leaving the pool area and getting my drinks from another nearby bar. (Passive aggressive I guess). Upon checking I discovered that tips were evenly dispersed if you were staying all-inclusive. This was the general attitude of the staff. Some were obviously more courteous than others. We were told that the "free" boards were not available even though we could see them behind the counter. We repeatedly tried to get them (there were 12 of us) over the course of the week and never got one once. The casino shows were pathetic. You could tell that the poor dancers were working their butts off but apparently the zillions of quarters being plugged into the slot machines don't go to fund the shows...very low-budget.
Overall it's a nice property but you'd better bring some cash and be ready to throw it around to get some smiles.
