Fair
I've given this hotel a 1 star , fair, purely on the basis that the drop-down menu won't allow less.Frankly having just arrived home from Tobago Arnos Vale was a major disappointment.
Years ago I'm sure the location was matched by what was then a good basic hotel, indeed apparently Royalty have stayed there.
These days it's a sad run-down relic of the past with more than a lick of paint required. The location is truly beautiful, set in lush gardens over-looking the sea with tropical birds in the gardens of the like we've not seen elsewhere.
On the down-side ;
1. High prices of drinks - some 50 % higher than even the most expensive resort hotel on the island.
2. A infrastructure not just faded but in places dangerous. Missing railing, apparently live wiring loose, damaged gardens chairs etc.
3. Facilities as mentioned in brochures simply not open ( shops, water sport hire, beach bar most of the time).
etc ..
The food here isn;t bad but come to expect a level of portion control, and that it's a bit samey, especially breakfast, largely due to the fact that it's about 80 % empty.
Can't find too much of a good word for this hotel, apart from the actual beach it's set beside which is fantastic. This hotel seems to sell itself on the basis of it's history rather than the current.
We checked out, espcially after the Italian caretaker Manager got all Italian emotional about our negtaive views, although agreed with us later. We ended up in a very different hotel, Coco Reef Resort, and despite this being a little "ersatz" to use somebody elses description had a terric holiday
