Monique's Guest House 04/05/2008

There were 2 of us staying at Moniques Guest House, Maravale for 2 weeks. We were satisfied with the rooms and service up until 2 days before we had to check out. On that day my boyfriend, as usual, locked his suitcase with a heavy duty 'Ross' lock before we left the room to go out for a while. Before we left the lock was in perfect working order and it was secure. When we returned to the room we noticed that the lock had been tampered with. Someone had tried to force the lock open and we saw something stuck inside the lock which had now collapsed in. We were very surprised and immediately went to reception to tell them about the incident, without accusing anyone. This is where things turned nasty and I have to saw I am utterly disgusted with how we were treated. When the manager of Monique's Guest House came to the room to inspect what had happened, she immediately concluded without even listening to us properly that the lock had broken itself, and said it was an old lock! (Which it wasn't) She said, whilst talking over us, that her staff would never do such a thing and put halos over each and every one of their heads. We were really angry but kept our cool. I then tried to explain, even though it was hard getting a word in edge ways, as she was still talking over us, that we had never had a problem with this lock before and we would appreciate it if she could have at least considered the possibility of someone interfering with the lock, but to my surprise she wasn't interested and dismissed it. After a while, two other members of staff came into the room and they said what we had told the manager originally, that the lock had in fact been tampered with. I was so happy that they weren't stubborn and blind! She then went off in a puff saying how she was going to conduct a thorough investigation. Up to this day, nothing has been done about the lock. We were truly lucky that the lock hadn't been broken into and nothing stolen as I guarantee absolutely nothing would have been done to rectify the situation. The manager even contradicted herself when saying that we shouldnt have left any of our valuables in our suitcases and they should be stored in their safety deposit box. I then reminded her what she said about her staff never doing such a thing and said if we lock our suitcases and leave them at the side, when we return from outside, we expect the suitcase to remain locked and left at the side. I am truly disappointed with Monique's and definitely would not stay their again. If the manager had apologised (yes, we did not even get an apology) then I probably wouldn't be writing this review about Monique's. Amanda
