I'm a little worried of this one, but whatever comes we have to do what we have to do. I live in Bermuda this island is not to big, with plenty of ocean around us so I am keeping my fingers cross.

I am wondering if travelling to Holguin Cuba on Saturday the 6th of Sept. would be advisable.

Does anyone know if we would be OK

Planning a trip to Grace Bay on September 11, and wonder what Ike and Josephine will be doing then...anyone have ideas?

quote-icon-20.gif Anthony said:

Josephine's track seems to be well out of the way - but Ike is a major hurricane and is forecast at the moment to come fairly close to the T&C.

If this storm remains a category 3 or 4 there could be major damage. If this trip isn't booked yet, you may want to reconsider.

quote-icon-20.gif Jeanne said:

Thanks Anthony, but the trip is already booked..
will keep checking this website for the latest information.

quote-icon-20.gif Anthony said:

I understand that - but - you better check with wherever you are staying. If this thing does come straight through the T&C as a major hurricane, wherever you were supposed to stay may not ready for business.

quote-icon-20.gif Jeanne said:

I plan to contact the hotel over the next couple of days, Anthony, and hope Grace Bay was spared any major damage.

quote-icon-20.gif Anthony said:

Things are not sounding good for the T&C - I would imaging the island will probably be somewhat our of business for at least several days - but we will have to wait and see of course. Our thoughts go out to everyone there.

We are planning to stay at The Palms, Grace Bay on September 12th. Does anyone know if this hotel was badly affected/damaged and if we should cancell our reservation?

Has anyone heard if Sibonne Beach Hotel is still standing??

quote-icon-20.gif Jeanne said:

Kevin, I've tried to contact my hotel and sent them two e-mails, but nothing so far. Will let you know what they say. Anthony is right, some hotels will probably be open for business sooner than others.

quote-icon-20.gif Jeanne said:

Hey great news, my hotel on Grace Bay is open for business! After leaving messages on their voice mail and getting nowhere, I skipped the toll free number and called the hotel directly. The front desk lady I spoke to this morning, said they are cleaning up, no major damage. So I'm out of here on Thursday and will be happy to volunteer with the cleanup. So glad they didn't get hit hard. Kevin, sounds like your hotel will be fine by November.

quote-icon-20.gif Anthony said:

Jeanne that is great news, but you better make sure the airport is open, etc. I read a report that said the air control tower was damaged, and that the airport was closed for commercial traffic.

I'm also interested in knowing if Sibonne Beach Hotel is still standing. Has anyone heard anything? I have reservations!!!

quote-icon-20.gif Patrick said:

Linda,

I called Sibonne and was told they had very minor damage - screens blown in and a gutter torn off.

quote-icon-20.gif Linda said:

Patrick,
Thanks so much for the info!

quote-icon-20.gif Jeanne said:

Anthony, thanks for the news, I'll re check the airport.

Jeanne did you see this:

"airline service by major carriers - including American Airlines, US Airways and Delta Airlines - has resumed on regularly scheduled levels to Providenciales International Airport"

Anthony, I'm writing from the Sands hotel on Grace Bay, nothing happened here. The damage happened on the island of Grand Turk and Salt Cay, a 45 minute plane ride from here. Teams of hurricane adjusters are here from Britain to access the damage on Grand Turk. The hotels on Grace Bay are in fine condition, typical island paradise. Weather is hot and sunny, the beaches are beautiful. So glad to be here!

Thanks Jeanne - great to know! Have a great vacation.
