Hurricane Beryl was a weakened wave/low when it finally got to the Caribbean basin, but was the first Hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season.
- Beryl became the first Atlantic hurricane of 2018 and then quickly dissipated while tracking towards the northeastern Caribbean.
- Heavy rain and gusty winds from Beryl's remnants impacted the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
- Beryl reformed in the northwest Atlantic as a subtropical storm, but did not directly affect land.
Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic received more than 10 inches of rain:
The take is that Beryl weakens significantly - good news!
Beryl was briefly a hurricane but has been brought back down to tropical storm status at the moment. It appears the NHC is forecasting that it remains a tropical storm for the next several days. Unfortunately, the forecast is tracking it right through the heart of the Caribbean basin.
Barbados, Dominica, Saba and other islands are currently under a tropical storm watch and residents should be taking action and listening to local authorities.
