Discover St. Lucia's colorful, friendly nature while visiting the 100-year-old Saturday Market (Castries Map D-4) in the capital of Castries. Here you'll find bountiful bananas, today's catch, local spices such as mace, nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa and hot pepper sauces which make great gifts and souvenirs. In the adjacent Craft Market are baskets, brooms and other straw goods, wood carvings, pottery and local artists wares at good prices.There is also a small market on the waterfront in Soufriére where some handicrafts and spices are sold.

Pointe Seraphine (Castries Map C-2) is an attractive, modern shopping complex located in the port of Castries with many restaurants and duty-free shops such as Corpelon Liquor & Tobacco, specializing in Cuban and Dominican Republic cigars; St. Lucia Fine Arts with original watercolors by Lewellyn Xavier, antique English prints and silver jewelry made by Mr. Xavier; Little Switzerland for a wide range of famous-name Swiss watches, crystal, china and jewelry; Paramount electronic and music center for audio/video electronics & accessories plus Caribbean music CD's; and Pickwick & Co. for everything imported from England-Wimbledon, Pringle, Portmeirion, Wedgewood and Edinburgh Crystal.

In town at Artsibits Gallery (Castries Map E-3) buy paintings, pottery and wood carvings by local craftspeople. The St. Lucia Philatelic Bureau in the General Post Office (Castries Map D-3) is a must for collectors (and souvenir hunters) who will love the beautiful St. Lucia commemorative issues. Stop by Caribelle Batik (Castries Map G-2) in an historic Victorian building on Morne Fortune overlooking Castries. Here you can observe artists creating the Indonesian art of batik sold on-premises. Bagshaw's (St. Lucia Map E-4 and in Pointe Seraphine) sells silkscreened work by local artist Sydney Bagshaw at a studio on La Toc Road and shops in Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage. Images (Castries Map) is the largest chain of duty-free stores in St. Lucia, carrying fragrances, cosmetics, electronics, sunglasses, cameras, watches, clothing and gifts and souvenirs. The new J.Q. Charles Mall (Rodney Bay Map F-2) near Rodney Bay has a great supermarket at street level. Upstairs is the Sunshine Bookshop, which also has a store in Gablewoods Mall (St. Lucia Map D-5). They carry Caribbean authors, newspapers and a good selection of Caribbean cookbooks. The Mall has a variety of food stalls, good for take-out, and Koko Tok, an apparel shop with particularly nice linen and cotton goods.
