15th Annual St Barth Bucket

St-Barth-Bucket.jpg Thirty-nine of the world's most majestic and spectacular racing yachts will gather in St Barth for the15th edition of the St Barth Bucket during March 26-28. Although there were 55 applications, the committee decided to limit the size and accepted 39 yachts. The committee has added a few new rules to ensure the safety of all the vessels. Originally, it was thought sufficient if the sailboats could turn and stop quickly. However, as the size of the sailing yachts has increased significantly over the years, a few additions to the rules were necessary. In this year's race, the boats must keep a distance of 40 meters between themselves at all times. Also, faster boats must pass outside the slower boats at turning marks. Technology will also be used to ensure safety. Crew will be able to communicate with each other via VHF to ensure safe crossings. In addition, the AIS radar tool will be used to identify the position of all boats, as well as their course and speed. Each boat will also have a safety tactician to monitor the boat's course and interact with the captain. It's not a small feat to organize an event like this! This year, the Bucket organizers hope to donate a "life-pack" - a first-aid tool for saving lives - to the De Bruyn Hospital. The races start at 11:00 am each day.
