The Collectivity has finalized the budget for 2010 and has several projects planned to improve the island. 2009 seemed to be the year of road improvements. Some of the projects planned for this year include a new water treatment plant, new equipment for the trash collection center, a study to build a dock in front of the Hôtel de la Collectivité that would protect the building and access to the port, reconstruction of the old town hall in Gustavia, a parking lot of 60-80 spaces in St Jean and additional parking across from the airport. In the addition, the project to build a retirement home next to the hospital will continue. Clearing of the land is already well underway (see photo). The completed building will provide 30 beds plus a few extra for patients with Alzheimer's disease and is expected to be completed in three years.
