Anguilla tourism to meet with WinAir

Our friend Gay Nagle Myers at Travel Weekly is <a href="http://www.travelweekly.com/articles.aspx?articleid=56307"><b>reporting</b></a>:

<blockquote>"Tourism officials in Anguilla are working to reverse Windward Islands Airways' decision to terminate its service between St. Maarten and Anguilla, effective May 15, according to Victor Banks, Anguilla's minister of tourism.

Banks said that WinAir's termination of the service, which ran several times a day using 19-seat Twin Otters, will handicap travelers' air access to Anguilla from St. Maarten, which is a major hub in the northeastern Caribbean for flights from the U.S. mainland and onward connections.

Banks said he will meet with WinAir representatives in St. Maarten this week in hopes of working out a solution.

If WinAir goes through with its plans to discontinue serving Anguilla, all is not lost on the air front. The island is served by American Eagle from San Juan as well as inter-island flights from other Caribbean destinations. WinAir, however, is the only carrier offering service between Anguilla and St. Maarten.

The only other transportation option linking the two islands is a ferry system that operates every half hour in both directions during the day between Marigot in French St. Martin and the Blowing Point terminal on Anguilla. The ferry trip takes 20 minutes versus the 15-minute flight by WinAir."<blockquote>

I think that the article has forgotten that Transanguilla Air also flys between SXM and AXA-

I have always found the flight to be about 7 minutes. The "2O" minute ferry ride leaves out it usually takes at least 1/2 hour to get from the airport to Marigot. Sure hope that they work it out with WinAir.
