Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association Championship

Postby KarenS » Tue Jun 13, 2006 7:16 am

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – The 22nd Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association championship is set to be the biggest ever with as many as 17 countries declaring their participation later this month in Trinidad & Tobago.

Defending champions Bahamas are among the teams for the one-week tournament at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre from 26 June to 1 July and the entry list could swell even further if Belize and French Guiana join the championship.

“We are still awaiting word from Belize and Cayenne (French Guiana), who have also expressed interest,” CABA general secretary Kathy Harper-Hall said.

The competition will have bouts in 14 weight classes and five categories – seniors, novices, youth, cadet and women. The weight divisions range from pinweight (46 kilos) to super heavyweight (91+ kilos).

There will be a pre-tournament seminar for officials on 25-26 June, designed mainly to improve efficiency with the computerised scoring system.

Countries already entered are: Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, USVI, and hosts Trinidad & Tobago.
