St. Lucia's yachting industry reported a major increase in arrivals even as hoteliers curse their luck.

The Rodney Bay Marina in northern St. Lucia is reporting a 26 per cent increase in moorings in the days before the first round matches with the promise of more to come.

The General Manager Rodney Bay Marina says around this time of the year occupancy is around 60 per cent now it is peaking at 86 per cent although the hotels are complaining.

“What is happening in this World Cup is that the non-traditional forms of accommodation have seen significant increases while the traditionally large hotels, maybe because of the price and the high season has seen low occupancy,” he said.

Yachting, the general manager says, is the best way to see the Caribbean.
