Liquid Duty-Free Items

Postby KarenS » Fri Sep 01, 2006 8:10 am

From an article in the Chicago Tribune:
"Many airports around the world are still putting severe or total restrictions on what can be sold to U.S.-bound passengers. The industry is anxiously awaiting an easing of those restrictions, but has to take its lead from the [U.S. Transportation Safety Administration]."

The most recent notice on the agency's Web site ( says that most liquids, gels, lotions and other items of similar consistency will not be allowed in carry-on bags; they must be packed in checked luggage.

"Duty-free items are permitted if delivered directly onto the aircraft," the notice says. "However, passengers making connections from international to domestic flights must transfer the items to their checked bag before boarding their flight."

Duty free liquor

Postby Sandra » Tue Nov 07, 2006 9:08 am

I just returned from Barbados. I had purchased
duty free liquor in B'dos but I was not allowed to board the plane with it (American Airlines to NY). Instead, all duty free liquor items were collected on the tarmac just before passengers boarded the plane, and the items were put into the cargo hold. Once we reached NY, our purchases were put on the baggage carousel for pick up along with the checked luggage.
