Beginning January 10, 2007, Barbados will have a daily non-stop service between New York and Grantley Adams International Airport on the regional carrier Air Jamaica.

This move, which was announced yesterday by Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Noel Lynch, during a press briefing at the Sherbourne Conference Centre, is expected to mitigate the impact of the decision by Caribbean Airlines which recently replaced BWIA to discontinue its non-stop flights on the same route as of January 8.

The Minister explained that the flight will depart New Yorks JFK airport daily at 7 a.m. and will arrive in Barbados at 12:40 p.m. The flight will then depart Barbados at 6:45 p.m. and return to JFK arriving at 10:40 p.m. He added that through this routing system, Barbados will be picking up additional countries, namely St. Lucia, Grenada and Jamaica. In other words, it will fly into Barbados; a couple of days a week it will go from Barbados to Grenada and then on to Montego Bay, it will turn in Montego Bay and come back to Barbados via those countries again and then on back to JFK. On ... three days a week it picks up Grenada and four days a week it picks up St. Lucia, he stated.
