Cayo Largo vs Cayo Santa Maria vs Cayo Coco

Postby carib1 » Thu Jan 19, 2006 3:02 pm

My wife and I are planning a late spring early summer vacation to Cuba. We are looking for a relaxing vacation in an area with a great beach and nice waters.

Which one of the kesys would you recomend and are Cayo Largo & Cayo Santa Maria even offered from Toronto during spring/summer?

Thank you.

Hi!
Well, I will post a vote for Cayo Largo since I have been there. Hopefully, our friend rodraad will post a reply because he has been to both. If you log into tripadvisor you can read my recent review (from Orangeville). The beach is truly beautiful, the Sol Hotels are great and the food was above par IMO. You should have no trouble getting a flight out of Toronto that time of year.

People often ask the Cayo Largo v Cayo Santa Maria question to rodraad "Which is better?"

But rodraad responds - love them both
Love is not a limited supply quantity

Both of these beaches have the special "world class" status rodraad gives them

Lean a little to Cayo Largo as a first visit
but the lushness of Cayo Santa Maria is extra special
and a must visit

(Cayo Largo would win for Scuba and quickness airport to hotel- )

(rodraad loved Cayo Coco but wouldn't give it the extra special "world class" rating

prefer Cayo Guillermo over Cayo Coco

prefer Guadalavaca over Cayo Coco)

There are hotels for every budget

(but a special vote to the Sol Club Cayo Largo and the Melia Cayo Santa Maria)

Summer should be avaialble this year for both

Thank you very much for your responses. I think we will be heading to Cayo Largo. I will Keep my fingers crossed that flights will be available from Toronto. Signature and Air Canada have already confirmed that they are only offering Cayo Largo departures from Montreal for the spring/summer 2006 season. Air Transat is our only hope, otherwise it will be a connection flight through Montreal.

My wife and I were lucky enough to visit all mentioned destinations. We have stayed in Sol Cayo Coco, Sol Santa Maria and Sol Pelicano for 2 weeks on each occassion.
Going back to Cayo Coco is not an option.Trip to either Santa Maria or Cayo Largo is a draw with better hotel/facility in SM and good scuba diving in CL. Also there is bigger naturist section of the beach in Cayo Largo, on other hand spanish sparkling wine and havana Club 7yr. old was only available in CSM.
