Positions available for Cricket Cup

Postby KarenS » Wed Mar 22, 2006 8:37 am

As reported in Caribbean Net News: "ST GEORGE’S, Grenada: Nine host venues, 16 warm up matches, one opening ceremony, 51 matches, 47 days of cricket and 2.2 billion television viewers.

That's the scheduled format for Cricket World Cup 2007 and to square it all off some 350 persons will be screened and professionally trained to be volunteers in 20 job categories under the ICC CWC Volunteer Program dubbed CWC Vibes.

Grenada’s Local Organizing Committee Chairman of the Board of Directors, Henry Joseph, says without human resources in the event’s planning and preparation the World Cup games will be useless.

'The participation of the whole population in a meaningful and tangible way is the necessary ingredient to ensure success, your cooperation will therefore be extremely necessary as we go forward in the planning process,' said Mr. Joseph.

CWC Volunteer Manager Peter McIntosh indicated that there is a broad spectrum of job opportunities for volunteers, focusing on every sector of the community.

'You just want to have high ranked professional people as volunteers, it is a great privilege to have volunteers from the grassroots communities having an opportunity to be apart of Cricket World Cup 2007,' said McIntosh.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Eunice Sandy David, made a special appeal to have the disabled members in society be a part of the volunteer program.

At the same time Chairperson of the volunteer program here, John Williams, said volunteers will be professionally trained.

'We are looking for volunteers in the area of VIP’s and welcome parties, ushers, translators and protocol just to name a few. So at the end of this event we should find ourselves with a well established cadre of persons who will be trained and could provide service for us here in Grenada,' Williams said.

CWC games start in Grenada on April 10, 2007 with the West Indies playing South Africa."

Anyone thinking of volunteering? May be a way to segue into a paying job?
